UAW Region 8 Sponsors Tom Landry Classic
UAW Region 8 is a proud sponsor of the Tom Landry Classic, which is one of the premier high school football events in the country and the largest high school sporting event in Texas (average attendance of 28,000). Annually, this doubleheader showcases four of the region’s top high school teams. The Classic was created to honor the legacy of legendary NFL Coach, Tom Landry who led America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys to two Super Bowl victories.
Each year, senior grade level Tom Landry Classic event participants (i.e.: football player, band member, cheerleader, student manager, mascot, drill team member and student trainer) are eligible to apply for a Tom Landry Scholarship. These scholarships are funded by corporate partners and are awarded to students for their commitment to academic excellence, leadership among their peers, and service to their community. In the initial 20 years of the event, the 2.249 applicants have volunteered over 122,000 hours in their communities, and the total amount of scholarship assistance from our corporate partners stands at over 1.2 million dollars.
Darrell Shepard, UAW Region 8 Servicing Representative was able to attend the 2022 Tom Landry Classic Gameday in August 2022 and present a scholarship award at the 2023 Tom Landry Classic Scholarship Banquet.
